Hi, I’m Lauren. Welcome to Lumin. In this course I’ll give you an overview of Facebook, how to set up a page and post content. Then I’ll take you through some basics about interacting on Facebook and ways you can make judgments about your page’s success.
I’m an account executive at Think HQ and I specialise in social media and communications. I’ve used Facebook both personally and professionally for many years. I spend time helping organisations like yours use Facebook effectively – for great results!
Okay, let’s start at the very beginning – what is Facebook and why should your organisation be on it? Facebook is the world’s most popular social media networking site where individuals and organisations can share information, pictures and videos – and communicate with one another. According to the 2017 Sensis Social Media Report, ninety-four per cent of Australians use Facebook.
When you’re a Facebook user, you can create a profile, exchange messages with other users, view other users’ profiles, add them as friends and encourage them to like your content (pictures, videos and status updates).
People use Facebook in many ways – we’ll focus on how much it can do to help your organisation. Once the page is up and running, you’ll find it an amazing marketing tool that offers so many ways to have meaningful interaction with all your stakeholders – funders, management and staff, members and customers – and promote yourself to new stakeholders.
Here’s just a handful of reasons why your organisation should be on Facebook:
It’s free to set up and a low-cost way to promote yourself. On Facebook you can share basic information, including contact details, your values, services, staff and history. It encourages two-way conversations between you and your audience and enables you to engage with existing and potential customers. Facebook is also great for raising brand awareness, and including your organisation’s URL on your page can bring a heap more traffic to your website.
Next lesson we’ll look at the basics of creating a Facebook profile.
